Don't Forget that Christ is the Only Way to Reason Also

We like to say that Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, but often we do not cede our reasoning to him. Paul writes that we have the mind of Christ and often Christians do not use that mind God has made available to them through His Word and His Spirit.<br />
<div>
While we have made the decision to follow Jesus, the old self is not going to give up too easily. We confess Jesus Christ as our Savior yet continue to reason as we did before. I am including myself in this critique. We have become absolutely convinced that God has spoken His love into our hearts, giving us access to the mind of Christ and to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. While salvation is a wonderful thing, it is only the beginning. We cannot grow in faith if Jesus is not the Lord of our reasoning.</div>
<div>
And, to be clear, by the Lord of our reasoning I will give an example; you have a decision to make between what you and your self-interest is telling you but it clashes with what Jesus would have you do. You defer to the wisdom of Jesus, trusting in Him even if, in the short run, it's more painful. I wish I had done that all the time but I haven't. Instead, at times I have given in to the other Lord of my reasoning; the other Lord being a hybrid of something I'll call "myself" and the Devil.&nbsp;</div>
<div>
You see, "my" reasoning can't be trusted like Jesus's reasoning because it is polluted by selfish interests and fears. Selfish interests like "I'll pay only the taxes I can afford to pay" and fears like "I'm worried what so-and-so would say about that" so we do the disobedient thing instead of what the person in Christ would do.</div>
<div>
And who are we really? Who is "I"? Christ was, is, and is to come. "I" wasn't, am now, but won't be. That's two strikes out of three! I can't even be sure of who "I" am. Due to my sinful nature, Satan has a hold on me and will until the "I" dies. I can only be certain of my salvation through Christ because my salvation belongs to God; He purchased it with His blood. I am in Christ only because the real thing - Christ - is in me. While this sounds like a profound mystery to most people, the mind of Christ is no mystery. The Bible in its entirety leads us to a correct response to almost any circumstance. Christ has availed us of His mind in the Bible. We just have to study it....and use it.</div>
